Dog Wrangler Extraordinaire: My Summer as a Veterinary Intern
I spent the summer interning at Randolph Animal Hospital, a small animal clinic close to my hometown. During the internship, I trained to take on the duties of a veterinary technician, meaning that I spent much of my time taking patient histories, assisting with appointments, restraining animals, aiding in surgery, giving vaccines, and performing routine procedures, such as nail trims. I also often developed my communication and customer service skills by answering the phones and managing the front desk. Additionally, I also worked as a kennel attendant for the hospital, which involved caring for boarding animals and town strays. Although such a fast-paced environment was often physically and emotionally draining, and came with a set of other challenges, I found my role to be incredibly fulfilling. As a result, I have enthusiastically decided to accept a position as a part-time staff member for this upcoming winter and summer breaks.
